Dementia is the loss of capacity, intellect, rationality, social skills and physical functioning, causing progressive decline in a person’s functioning. One of the main symptoms of dementia is memory loss: the progressive decline in forgetting how to complete key tasks or where they live. It can often lead to anxiety, hoarding or repetition caused by frustration, fear and/or a sense of isolation. Dementia affects a lot of Australians and there is a real need in the community for expert and highly experienced dementia care services.
Looking after a loved one with dementia can be emotional and exhausting. Proper dementia care requires patience and understanding at a time when your loved one is confused and prone to anger. It is often important to create a calm and familiar environment. This can lead to a focus on a consistent routine offering little flexibility for the carer, leading to a sense of isolation.
How Nextt can help
Many of the thousands of clients we support have dementia. Our fully certified and highly trained staff that provide dementia care in Victoria, NSW, and Queensland, are experts in helping carers and clients with dementia to cope with the many changes that are occurring in their lives. We help maintain a sense of the familiar by giving clients the tools and resources that they need in order to stay in their home surrounded by their belongings, family, and so on, to create important continuity. This can be achieved as part of a Government funded Home Care Package or as a private funded service. We do our best to provide regular, familiar and preferred support staff.
We can assist with co-ordinating referrals and making linkages to government funding, and so provide access to more services such as respite breaks – be it a holiday or in the community or ongoing in-home respite for carers.
Speak to one of our local case Managers to find out more, and our services are available across the country. Wherever you might need support with dementia care: Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle, or any of the other major cities throughout Australia, we are there to help.
